History

Founding and Early Work

Mythicist Milwaukee was founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by Sean Fracek and Fritz Antonio Blandón.  In January of 2013, they came across the Peter Joseph film, “Zeitgeist-The Movie.”   Part one of that movie introduced them to the mythicist position and sparked an interest in furthering the audience of this information. Early on they made contact with the late scholar [http://www.mythicistmilwaukee.com/mythicistmilwaukeeblog/2015/12/27/a-tribute-to-the-life-and-work-of-dm-murdock-aka-acharya-s D.M. Murdock, aka Acharya S] who inspired them to do their own independent research into mythicism.

In February 2013, Mythicist Milwaukee was founded with the creation of a Facebook page.  The page consisted of memes and articles demonstrating the parallels between the Abrahamic faiths and similar mythologies which predate them.  The Facebook page quickly garnered the attention of Kristyn Whitaker Hood.  Hood, already a fan of the subject and dedicated researcher was added to the organization and immediately began contributing relevant content to the page.

In March 2013 a website was created and the group created a presence on other social media outlets including Meetup.com, a website for various hobbyists to create public social calendars.

Throughout the following months, Fracek and Blandon regularly attended meetings at the atheist groups in Milwaukee.  This effort led to the addition of atheist activist Rob Moore, who started to work closely with Mythicist Milwaukee on various secular grassroots initiatives.

In April of 2013 Fracek traveled to Egypt, to study firsthand the ancient Egyptian religious sites and traditions.  During this trip he experienced the Adhan, or Muslim call to prayer, and decide to research whether or not this practice took place in the U.S.  In June of 2013 Fracek and Blandon traveled to Hamtramck Michigan, one of the only communities in America to allow the Adhan to be broadcast publicly, to film an amateur documentary on the controversial policy.

The documentary, “Night Journey to Hamtramck”, debuted at the Times Theater in Milwaukee on March 12, 2014.

Growth & Events

In 2014, Brian Edward came upon the Mythicist Milwaukee team and saw potential in the organization. Fracek and Edward began to travel to major secular conferences around the U.S. to get an idea of what initiatives to focus on to grow the organization. The idea of hosting Milwaukee’s first ever major atheist conference was conceived.

Mythicist Milwaukee held the [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwLOT-XLb2KCC8fjIxsAC9ebBNBaSvfbf Mythinformation Conference] on April 25, 2015. The [https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwLOT-XLb2KC9kLIikMPKGmhUyAC-3lgr Mythinformation Conference II] was held in Milwaukee on September 27, 2015.  Mandisa Thomas, Arthur George, David Fitzgerald and the Wu- Tang Clan’s Killah Priest spoke at the event. Following the success of the first two Mythinformation Conferences Mario Quadracci teamed up the Mythicist Milwaukee to fund the first ever Atheist debate series entitled Buzzed Belief Debate Series held in Milwaukee, WI.

On March 19 2016, Dr. Richard Carrier and Dr. Justin W. Bass debated the following topic: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P_dsO2dOv4&t=8795s “Are There Reliable Sources for the Miraculous Resurrection of Jesus?”] The resurrection of Jesus is the Christian religious belief that, after being put to death, Jesus rose again from the dead. It is the central tenet of Christian theology and part of the Nicene Creed.

The Mythinformation Conference III was held on October 21, 2016. This conference featured Allie Jackson CEO of Atheist Republic, Thomas Smith podcast host of Atheistically Speaking, Rob Moore, and Dan Barker Co-President of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. This event was closed out with the Buzzed Belief debate between Dr. Robert Price and Dr. Bart D. Ehrman that focused on whether or not Jesus existed as an historical figure.
